CITB - Health and Safety Awareness - ONLINE CLASSROOM TRAINING

Remote delivery of the CITB Health and Safety Awareness course is now possible as the CITB changed the scheme rules in response to the Coronavirus Pandemic to allow delivery of CITB Site Safety Plus Courses online in virtual classroom format.

This introductory CITB online training course is part of the Site Safety Plus range of CITB courses. It is aimed at operatives and newcomers to the construction industry and is an ideal foundation course for those wishing to obtain an industry accreditation certificate.

The CITB Health and Safety Awareness course is typically taken by those who wish to obtain the CSCS Labourers 'Green' card. Previously, the CSCS did not accept e-learning qualifications but will accept the e-learning CITB Health and Safety Awareness course during the Coronavirus Pandemic.

As it stands, there is no set end date for any CITB courses available in an online format, but more conventional classroom dates are now being released, giving candidates more options as to how they wish to obtain their qualifications.

Please note that in order to apply for the CSCS Green card, candidates must hold a valid CSCS Health, Safety and Environment test for Operatives.

CITB Training Online Course Detail

This CITB training online course has been designed to help operatives and newcomers working in the construction industry to understand the potential hazards that they face on a construction site. It provides a practical summary of health, safety, welfare and environmental issues, identifying the delegate’s responsibility for looking after themselves and others.

Thie Health and Safety Awareness course outlines the employer's duties and explains what should be done if the worker thinks that anyone else's health and safety is being put at risk.

The course content is the same as that of the conventional classroom-based course but is delivered in an online classroom environment.

This CITB Online Training course includes the following elements:

  • What is expected of site operatives and how they contribute to the safety of the workplace.
  • An understanding of the need to prevent accidents, and the importance of reporting accidents and unsafe acts.
  • A basic understanding of health and safety law.
  • Understanding the need for risk assessments and method statements.
  • Identify how their role fits into the safety management on the site.
  • An appreciation of the need to work safely and to stop and ask for advice if unsure.
  • An understanding of health & welfare, manual handling, working at height, PPE, fire prevention and control, emergency procedures & first aid, electrical safety on site, hazardous substances, hand-held equipment and tools, noise and vibration, excavations and confined spaces, and site transport safety on site.

Delegates will be assessed using a multiple-choice question format at the end of the CITB online course.

E-Learning Alternative

For those wishing to obtain a CSCS Labourer’s Green Card, there is an e-learning alternative. The Level 1 Health and Safety in a Construction Environment (Leading to CSCS Green Card) - E-Learning course is an ETA Award accepted by CSCS as a recognised achievement towards a CSCS labourers Card. The Level 1 course can be done at your own pace through E-learning and once passed the qualification does not have a formal expiry date, but a renewal would be recommended every five years. This course includes an on-line invigilated course exam and is equivalent to the traditional CITB - Health and Safety Awareness course. On successfully completing and passing this E-Learning course, the route to obtaining the green card is the same as for the CITB - Health and Safety Awareness course; i.e. as well as passing the course you must have completed and passed the Health, Safety and Environment touch screen test at an approved centre either within a period of two years before obtaining the qualification or before the course qualification expires. When you have passed both the course and the touch screen test, you are then eligible to make a green card application.
