SMSTS and Site Safety Plus

SMSTS Training and Site Safety Plus: The CITB Construction Skills Site Safety Plus scheme is a health and site safety training programme with courses addressing the needs of site managers, site supervisors, the site work force and subcontractors.

This category includes all the SMSTS and Site Safety Plus courses, which are delivered throughout the UK, either as open public courses or as dedicated courses on customers’ own sites or privately arranged venues. Site management training and safe site supervision is critical to site safety and equally important is the level of safety awareness of the entire workforce on a construction site. Although this group of courses is often referred to generically simply as SMSTS Training, there are a number of Site Safety Plus training courses designed to provide the building, civil engineering and allied industries with a range of courses for individuals seeking to develop their skill sets. These safety training courses are run through a network of CITB accredited Training Providers.

The CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) is the body which administers courses within the sector and training grants for the Site Safety Plus training courses are available to CITB levy payers.

SMSTS training and site safety training courses within this category include the following courses, which also have their own dedicated categories:

SMSTS Training (Site Management Safety Training Scheme). A five day course aimed at site managers.
SMSTS Refresher Course. The two day SMSTS training refresher course targeted at site managers who have previously completed the five day SMSTS training course.
SSSTS (Site Supervisor’s Safety Training Scheme). A two day course for construction site supervisors.
Health and Safety Awareness. A one day course aimed at operatives working on construction sites.
PMSTS (Plant Management Safety Training Scheme). The PMSTS training course is a five day course designed for plant managers, plant instructors, plant inspectors and others with responsibilities for planning, monitoring, controlling and administering plant and equipment.
Achieving Behavioural Change. This is a one day site safety training course aimed at everyone working on a construction site. This course can be applied to any construction situation and is designed to provide delegates with an understanding of how attitude, behaviour, communication and engagement at all levels can help reduce accident frequencies.
Site Safety for Shop fitters and Interior Contractors. This is a three day course for site managers, foremen and supervisors working within shop fitting and interior contracting.
