NEBOSH International General Certificate: NEBOSH (The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) was formed in 1979 as an independent examining board and awarding body with charitable status. NEBOSH offer a comprehensive range of globally-recognised, vocationally-related qualifications designed to meet the health, safety, environmental and risk management needs of all places of work in both the private and public sectors.

Training courses within this category are for the NEBOSH International Certificate. The NEBOSH International Certificate course is aimed at Managers, supervisors and employees who are typically based outside of the UK and need a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety principles and practices

The NEBOSH International Certificate is suitable for those embarking on a career in health and safety and provides a sound basis for progression on to the NEBOSH International Diploma.

Some NEBOSH International Certificate courses are also delivered as e-learning or blended formats.

The NEBOSH International Certificate is divided into three units. Units IGC1 and IGC2 are generally taught units and are both assessed by written examination. The third unit, IGC3 is assessed by a practical examination. A brief overview of the units is given below, with further details in course overviews.

NEBOSH International Certificate Unit IGC1 - Management of health & safety, includes
- Foundations in Health & Safety; outlining the role of national governments and international bodies in determining legal frameworks relating to health and safety management, as well as moral and economic drivers, and key elements of a health and safety management system
- Policy; key features and appropriate content of policy relating to heath and safety.
- Organising for Health & Safety; the roles and responsibilities.
- Promoting a Positive Health and Safety Culture; health and safety culture and behaviours.
- Risk Assessment; including hazard identification and the need for assessing risks.
- Principles of Control; including hierarchy of risk reduction methods and common control measures.
- Monitoring, Review and Audit
- Occupational Incident and Accident Investigation, including Recording and Reporting.

NEBOSH International Certificate Unit IGC2 - Controlling workplace hazards, includes the following elements
- Movement of People and Vehicles - hazards and control
- Manual and Mechanical Handling - hazards and control
- Work Equipment - hazards and control
- Electricity - hazards and control
- Fire - hazards and control
- Chemical and Biological Hazards – hazards and Control
- Physical and Psychological Health – hazards and Control
- Construction Activities - hazards and control

NEBOSH International Certificate Unit IGC3 - Health and safety practical application. For this unit candidates are required to carry out an unaided inspection of a workplace, identifying the more common hazards and then deciding whether they are adequately controlled. They then need to prepare a report to persuade management on remedial measures that need to be taken. Students will normally be required to complete the IGC3 assessment within 14 days (before or after) of sitting the examination for Units IGC1 and/or IGC2.
