NEBOSH - International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety

The NEBOSH International General Certificate (also referred to as the NEBOSH IGC) is suitable for those embarking on a career in health and safety at an international level. It provides a sound basis for progression on to the NEBOSH International Diploma and is often seen as an initial step to a career within health and safety management. It is aimed at managers, supervisors and employees who are typically based outside of the UK and need a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety principles and practices.

Successful candidates who pass the NEBOSH International General Certificate course will be eligible to become Technical Members of IOSH (TechIOSH) and can use these designated letters after their name. Members at this level must maintain their level of knowledge through the IOSH Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme. This qualification also opens the door to become an Associate Member of IIRSM (International Institute of Risk and Safety Management).

 

NEBOSH International General Certificate Course Detail

The International NEBOSH General Certificate is divided into two units; NEBOSH IG1& IG2. 

 

NEBOSH IG1 Unit

This NEBOSH unit includes:

• Managing workplace health and safety and the reasons for doing this.
• How health and safety managemente systems work and what they look like.
• Management of risk and understanding people and processes.
• Health and safety monitoring and measurement.

This unit is assessed by open book and examination and with some elements  addressed by practical assessment.

 

NEBOSH IG2 Unit

This NEBOSH unit includes:

• Physical and Psychological Health – hazards and  controls
• Musculoskeletal Health
• Chemical and Biological Agents
• General Workplace Issues
• Fire - Hazards and controls
• Electricity - Hazards and controls

This unit is assessed by practical assessment.

 

Course Delivery

NEBOSH International General Certificate courses are available as either open public courses or as a blended e-learning course. It is also possible to take a NEBOSH International General Certificate e learning course, designed for those who may struggle to attend block sessions away from their workplace.

All NEBOSH training courses are provided by NEBOSH accredited training providers. Successful candidates studying for the NEBOSH International General Certificate will receive an accredited NEBOSH certificate for each unit passed.
