ISO Consulting and Support Services

This category relates to ISO Consulting and Support Services. Sometimes a training course alone is not enough for an organisation to successfully develop and implement a management system to comply with one or more the common ISO certification schemes. This is particularly true for small organisations of less than 100 employees and is often true for medium sized companies as well.

Within a smaller organisation it can be extremely difficult to justify the channelling of internal resource into ISO certification projects and the alternative option is to employ a specialist consultant to help the organisation with the development.

If you want to discuss the possibility of using support services to help your organisation achieve either ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, or perhaps even all three certifications please send us an email on consulting@bookmycourse.co.uk and we will get back to you discuss how we might help.

ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 are the most sought after certifications and the most requested management system certifications in tender pre-qualification submissions. It is often the commercial pressure associated with tender pre-qualification to demonstrate one or more of these certifications that drives the initial development, but there also many advantages associated with implementing these three standards.

ISO 9001 is the longest established of the three certification schemes, and is usually the first of the management systems to be put in place. Achieving ISO9001 is not just a good way to consolidate an organisation’s credibility with existing and potential clients. A well designed Quality Management System should result in improved efficiencies and business performance and provide a structured system for future development and business change.

With an ISO 9001 based system at the core of the organisation’s operations it is then more straight forward to implement ISO1 4001 and OHSAS 18001

The use of ISO Consulting and Support Services can have the following advantages:

Lower Internal and Overall Costs: The experience that a good consultant can bring to an ISO project will accelerate the system design and documentation phase. Without ISO Consulting and Support being on tap an organisation will have to dedicate the time of internal staff to develop the system and these individuals will need to go through a steep learning curve before arriving at a final design.

Lower Training Costs: The use of external ISO Consulting support should reduce the need for extensive and expensive training courses as key staff should learn most of what they need to know from the consultant during the implementation.

Fast Track Implementation: A good consultant should help the organisation towards successful certification in a much shorter time period. Internally driven implementations will often drag out, sometimes into years, but a consultant should be able to help a company towards successful certification within a much shorter time period.

Avoidance of Inappropriate Over Design: It is important to avoid Over Design of systems in areas where it is not necessary. It is all too often seen that when companies develop systems internally, some areas get over-developed with complexities that are unnecessary, whilst other critical parts of the system do not get enough attention. An experienced consultant will help the organisation to achieve the best balance.

Prevention of a Certification Failures: One of the most de-motivating things that can happen within an organisation is to fail the certification process. Whilst it is always possible to put corrective actions in place to address the shortfalls and then try again, this route is not only expensive in terms of certification fees and internal effort it is also a negative for an organisation’s moral. The use of external support should prevent the certification failure scenario.

Post Registration Support: The use of a consultant can also have advantages post registration. The challenge with any ISO certificated management system is to ensure that the system continues to be customer focused and continually improved in-line with the commercial objectives of the company. This can be particularly difficult within a smaller company. Here external support from a consultant can help the company remain on the right track. The consultant can offer help in maintaining and improving the system, ensuring that key operational staff are not deflected from their main operational duties.

Listed below are some implementation course options that might also be worth consideration, if you want to consider the internal development route.
