Paediatric First Aid - 2 Day Course

Introduction:

The paediatric first aid qualification aims to give learners the necessary skills and knowledge to deal with a range of emergencies involving children.

Who Should Attend:

This course is suitable for those who are currently employed, or wish to be employed in a childcare setting, including nursery nurses, pre-school teachers, teaching assistants and student teachers.

Course Aims and Objectives:

The paediatric first aid qualification aims to enable learners who work or intend to work in a childcare setting, with the skills, knowledge, understanding and ability to deal with emergency situations.

The range of skills covered includes first aid and resuscitation procedures for child and infant casualties. Learners will be able to recognise and manage childhood medical conditions, as well as being able to provide emergency treatment until the arrival of the emergency medical services.

Assessment Methods:

This qualification is tutor assessed through the completion of worksheets and practical demonstrations. Worksheets are to be completed independently by each learner, with the tutor acting as the invigilator.

Assessors will assess no more than 4 learners at any one time when performing practical demonstrations.

All practical tasks must be performed independently by the learner without prompting by the tutor.

Entry Requirements:

Learners must be 16 years of age or above on the first day of the course. It is advisable that learners have a minimum of level 1 in literacy or numeracy or equivalent.

Learners must be able to kneel on the floor to delivery CPR.
