Many people take the NEBOSH National General Certificate as a first step in a career in health and safety. It provides a valuable overview, and is a sound basis for further professional study, such as the NEBOSH National Diploma. The NEBOSH Certificate is aimed at those wanting to obtain a health and safety qualification and want to develop a career in safety management. It is suitable for managers, supervisors and operational staff from all functions not just health and safety, from organisations in all sectors – including health hazards and risk assessment.

 

The NEBOSH National General Certificate covers the main legal requirements for health and safety in the UK, identification and control of workplace hazards, and the practical application of this knowledge. This is reflected in the three units that comprise the qualification.

 

The qualification is divided into three assessed units, each of which is assessed separately. Assessment is by two written examinations (one for each of the Units NGC1 and GC2) and a work-based practical examination (Unit GC3). All units must be completed within 5 years in order to achieve the full qualification. You will receive ongoing support to ensure that you successfully complete this safety qualification. This NEBOSH qualification meets the academic requirements for Technical Membership (TechIOSH) of IOSH and Associate Membership (AIIRSM) of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM). Completion of the course will give you a certificate in occupational health and safety.
