Course Summary:

The Level 3 Intermediate Certificate in Food Safety has been accredited by the regulators of England, Wales and Northern Ireland (Ofqual, Welsh Government and CCEA) and is part of the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF)

This course aims to provide the necessary knowledge to adequately supervise hygienic food production and preparation. The course will enable the delegate to play an active role in the management of food safety issues in the workplace.

This course is for those working in the food industry at supervisory level but can also include anyone who needs a good understanding of food hygiene for their work. Owners and managers in small to medium sized food businesses may also find that the intermediate
course provides them with the knowledge to carry out their work more effectively. Delegates will need to have an analytical approach to food hygiene and will be encouraged to demonstrate how they can influence others and positively encourage good standards.

Pre-Requisite:

There are no prerequisites for this qualification, although it is advised that candidates already hold the Level 2 Award in Food Safety, or equivalent.

Validity of Award: This qualification does not expire

Length of Course: 25 guided learning hours.

Course Information:

The qualification covers the following topics:

- Role of the supervisor in ensuring compliance with food safety legislation
- The application and monitoring of good hygiene practice
- How to implement food safety management procedures
- The role of the supervisor in staff training

Each of the topics above are made up of smaller learning objectives that complete the course syllabus.

The course is tailored to suit the background of the individual delegates so that all aspects of food production, processing, storage, transport, wholesaling, catering and retailing are covered.

Assessment:

This qualification is assessed through a 60-question multiple-choice question examination. The duration of the examination is 2 hours.
