Highfield Level 2 Award in the Principles of Fire Safety

Course Aim:

The aim of the course is to ensure your employees can identify the hazards and risks associated with fire in the workplace. In addition, they will know how these risks can be effectively controlled.

They will understand the legal duties of an employer and an employee with regard to managing fire safety under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

Who Should Attend:

This course is ideal for anyone responsible for fire safety in any workplace. This includes Fire Marshals, Fire Wardens, Managers, Team Leaders, Heads of Department or Supervisors

Duration: 1 day

Entry Requirements:

Candidates are not required to have any prior knowledge or qualifications in fire safety to enable them to attend this course.

It is also recommended that candidates have a minimum of level 1 in literacy or equivalent.

-The characteristics of fire and smoke spread.
-Identifying and controlling fire hazards.
-How to implement fire control methods.
-Fire exits and providing a clear means of escape.
-Fire detection and how to raise the alarm confidently.
-Managing the evacuation process.
-Common fire fighting systems.
-How to extinguish fires.
-The use of portable fire fighting equipment including practical hands on experience.
-The importance of fire risk assessments and who carries them out.
-The stages of a fire risk assessment.
-How to carry out fire safety inspections.
-Understanding and inspecting fire-fighting equipment and systems.
-The important role of a fire marshal including duties and responsibilities.

Refresher Recommendation:

It is recommended that all candidates who achieve the Level 2 Award in the Principles of Fire Safety refresh their qualification every three years.

Assessment Method:

Assessment is by a multiple choice examination, where the candidate must answer at least 12 out of 20 questions correctly.

The examination will take 45 minutes to complete and successful completion will result in a Highfield Level 2 Award in the Principles of Fire Safety certificate.

Suggested Progression:

Candidates achieving this qualification could progress onto a Level 3 Award in Health and Safety within the Workplace.
