This course is for new entrant/operatives who are looking to start a career within the scaffolding industry. All existing CISRS Scaffolding Labourer cardholders also need to complete the course once their current card expires, before being issued a new card, as part of CISRS scheme requirements.

Pre-Requisite:
 
As from 1st January 2018 delegate must have successfully completed a CITB Health and Safety and Environment Test within 2 years prior to attending the CISRS COTS course. CISRS do accept some other industry recognised Health and Safety qualifications as an exemption to the CITB HS&E Test. Those listed below must be completed within 2 years of the date of application
 
Health & Safety Requirements:
- IOSH Working Safely/IOSH Managing Safely/IOSH
- Directing Safely
- FAS Safe Pass
- NEBOSH (General/Construction/International/) H&S Certificate
- SMSTS Certificate
- SSSTS Certificate

or

- Current CCNSG Safety Passport (SCATS)
- Current CCNSG Safety Passport Supervisor (SCATS)
Current MIST/BOSIET/OPITO Approved Offshore Certificate
 
Overall Objectives:

This course is designed to provide all new entrants and labourers with an appreciation of general site safety, and how to work safely with scaffolding and access equipment and safe method of manual handling. It will also ensure that existing operatives are up to date, as scaffolding labourers will need to repeat the course every five years before renewing their card.

The course will give trainees an understanding of:

-Relevant Regulations & Codes of Practice
-General Responsibilities
-Basic Scaffold Terminology
-Servicing of Equipment & Stock Control
-Work at Height
-Manual Handling (Including practical element)
-Site Transport Safety (Loading & Unloading)
-Health, Welfare, Hygiene and Housekeeping
-Electrical Safety
-Fire Prevention and Control
-Noise and Vibration
-Accident Prevention and Reporting
-Personal Protective Equipment
-Lifting Equipment using Rope & Wheel (Including practical element)
-Questions and Test Paper

Certification:

Following completions of the CISRS Construction Operative Training Scheme (COTS) you will be issued with an attendance certificate. If you would like to apply for a CISRS Scaffolder Labourer or Trainee card you must hold a current Health & Safety Qualification within the last 2 year and apply for your card within 2 years of completing your course.

As from 1st January 2017 Safety & Access will apply for either a CISRS Scaffolder Labourer or Trainee card on completing of the CISRS COTS Course.
 
Progression:

Delegates must hold a current CISRS Scaffold Trainee/Labourers card for a minimum of 6 months with on site experience to enable them to progress to Scaffolding 10 Day Part 1 training course.
 
PPE:

Hard hats and safety boots should be brought for the practical element of the course.
The course either has new dates in data loading, or is only run as a dedicated or In Company course.
