CITB Courses carry Credibility in the Construction Industry
In an industry where improving health and safety is a key concern, CITB courses
continue to be the most well respected option for construction training. With over 10,000 people a year choosing training recognised by the CITB, many UK sites regard these as the standard to aim for. A large number of sites request evidence of up to date CITB training when recruiting and having a CITB qualification can give job seekers that competitive edge in the application process. CITB courses
are run as open courses in a variety of locations through the UK. This means delegates can chose to travel to a trainer’s venue and complete the course in a face to face setting, with the guidance of an experienced trainer. CITB courses
can also be run as in house courses, where the trainer will travel to the delegates’ site and conduct the training there. A minimum of five delegates is often needed to make the training cost effective when choosing this option. What types of CITB courses are there?
There are a range of CITB courses
to chose from, each being tailored to specific roles within the construction industry.
The best know are the Site Supervisors Safety Scheme (SSSTS) and the Site Managers Training scheme (SMSTS). The credibility of these within the industry is well known and both courses meet UKCG requirements.
The SSSTS (CITB) runs over 2 days and is aimed at those supervising a team of workers on site. It covers current UK construction legislation and how to supervise a team in an effective way. This ‘card’ last for 5 years and needs to be completed again in full after this time.
The SMSTS (CITB) runs over 5 days and is aimed at those who have responsibility for managing the site and complying with the Construction Design Management (CDM regulations). This course can be attended as a full week course over five consecutive days or on one day a week for 5 weeks. This card lasts for 5 years, after this time there is a six month grace period in which to complete the SMSTS Refresher.
The SMSTS Refresher (CITB) is a two day course that ensures site managers have an up to date working knowledge of current UK health and safety practice and legislation. A perquisite of this course is that delegates must have completed the SMSTS (CITB) course beforehand.
Other CITB courses
include the CITB Health and Safety Awareness. This is a single day course which covers the basics of health and safety on a construction site. It is an equally excellent basis for those just starting out on their career in construction or those who needs to update their knowledge of health and safety practice.
The CITB (ABC) - Achieving Behavioral Change Training course is of a single day duration. It is suitable for all employed within the construction sector and is based around changing behaviors to promote a safe working environment.
The CITB Plant Management Safety Training Scheme (PMSTS) is specifically tailored to those operating or responsible for the safety of plant machinery. It covers both general and plant specific health and safety issues, ensuring that delegates are aware of how to confirm to good working practices.
