CPCS (A40) Training - Slinger, Signaller Courses

CPCS Slinger Training - Slinger, Signaller Courses (A40): This category of CPCS Plant training is aimed at those that are involved in slinging loads for cranes and lifting equipment. CPCS training courses are designed to lead to Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) qualifications, which allow those holding a valid qualification to carry a CPCS card.

This course is sometimes wrongly confused with a vehicle banksman course for those involved in traffic or vehicle marshalling operations outside of construction. Crane drivers do not always have clear visibility of the loading area, especially when tower cranes are employed. In the context of this CPCS qualification the banksman element relates to being in charge of the crane movements from the point of loading and unloading using safe systems of communication with the crane driver.

The A40 course aims to train operators in the theoretical and practical parts of the slinger/signaller role. The aim of which is passing the CPCS technical test.

If you are a Private Individual looking to obtain a CPCS card for a Slinger/Signaller, the implications are very different from those of a CITB registered construction company. For Private Individuals it is recommended that you click on the following link with information on CPCS Training and the Private Individual, before making a specific enquiry relating to a Slinger/Signaller, Training Course.

If you already understand the details of the scheme and want to make CPCS training enquiry please either click here to send a general enquiry, or click on one of the courses at the bottom of this page and the scroll down to send a specific course enquiry. It is always worth making a general enquiry on CPCS training courses as course dates will not always be shown in search results. A typical CPCS A40 course will include: how to calculate weights and sizes of loads and how to inform the plant operator of this. In addition, a typical course covers how to select, use and maintain the appropriate lifting tackle for a job, clear and accepted signals for moving a load, the slinger/signaller’s responsibilities and how moving loads can affect the stability of a crane.

The CPCS technical test at the end of the course includes a theory and practical test.

As with other CPCS categories there are foundation or novice courses for those with little experience and as well as experienced worker courses. Course choice will depend on how much experience the delegate has.
