Course Introduction
This qualification is for learners who wish to develop a knowledge and understanding of the role of a teaching assistant, classroom assistant or support worker in a school environment.
This qualification comprises of four units. There is no requirement to be working in a school to achieve this qualification. Learners must complete 12 credits from the four mandatory units.
This is a nationally recognised qualification and the requirement to work as a TA in schools.
Course Entry Requirements
There are no specific entry requirements, however, learners should have a minimum of Level 2 in literacy or equivalent. Learners should be keen to work in the sector to support teaching and learning in schools. They should also have attention to detail and be willing to work in a team environment, whilst also being willing to work using their own initiative when required. Minimum age 16
Course Overview
This course is ideal for those looking to work in schools as a teaching assistant and have no formal qualifications already in this sector. The level 3 Award can be studied without being in a teaching support role and allows for progression to the certificate when in post. This qualification covers four mandatory units:
- Unit One: Communication and Professional Relationship with Children and Young People
- Unit Two: Schools as Organisations
- Unit Three: Understand Child and Young Person Development
- Unit Four: Understand How to Safeguard the Wellbeing of Children and Young People
This course is studied online using our learning platform with full tutor support. We allow 13 weeks to complete this qualification. The qualification has 12 credits and guided learning hours of 80 to complete
Course Assessment
Assessment is done through various methods based on written assignments and a portfolio of supporting evidence and an observation with written and verbal feedback on the micro teach delivery aspect of the course. There are no exams and the learner can either pass, fail or be referred.

- Level 2 qualifications in Children’s Care, Learning and Development, Play Work or Youth Work Practice Structure
- TQUK Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (QCF)
