The aim of the course:
The NPORS Rear Tipping Dumper (N205) course is designed to provide operators with the fundamental knowledge and practical skills required to operate a rear tipping dumper safely, efficiently, and in line with industry standards and legal obligations.
Course content:
Industry and Safety Awareness
• Overview of the construction and plant operation industry.
• Identification of typical site hazards and operational risks.
• Understanding operator roles, responsibilities, and legal duties under health and
safety legislation.
Machine Knowledge
• Identification of key components and controls of the dumper.
• Understanding the functions and purposes of each component.
• Recognition of safety features and warning systems.
Pre-Operational Checks
• Conducting systematic machine inspections before use.
• Following manufacturer guidelines and legal inspection requirements.
• Identifying faults and reporting procedures.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Identifying mandatory PPE for dumper operation.
• Correct usage and maintenance of PPE.
• Understanding site-specific PPE requirements.
Safety Checks in the Work Area
• Assessing the operational area for hazards and obstacles.
• Ensuring ground conditions are suitable for machine operation.
• Establishing and maintaining safe working zones.
Dumper Operation
• Preparing the dumper for work, including start-up procedures.
• Safe driving techniques across various terrains.
• Effective manoeuvring and positioning of the machine.
• Operating the tipping mechanism correctly and safely.
Environmental Considerations
• Minimising environmental impact during dumper operations.
• Managing noise, dust, and emissions.
• Handling spillages and waste in compliance with regulations.
Loading and Unloading Procedures
• Understanding weight limits and load distribution.
• Safe loading techniques to prevent overloading and spillage.
• Transporting the dumper to and from site safely.
• Securing the dumper during transit.
End-of-Shift Procedures
• Correct shut-down and securing of the machine.
• Completing necessary post-operation checks and documentation.
• Reporting defects or incidents in accordance with site procedures

Pre-requisites:
For learners applying for the NPORS CSCS Card, or for those requiring the 'HS&E TESTED Logo' displayed on their card they MUST have passed the CITB Operatives Health, Safety and Environment Test within the last 2 years.
For learners applying for the NPORS traditional licence, there are no pre-requisites required.
Certification:
Candidates will be issued with a NPORS operator’s card upon successful completion.
