IOSH Managing Safely

If successful in completing the course you will be awarded an IOSH Managing Safely certificate, a nationally recognised and respected 
training accreditation for managers and supervisors. A one-day Managing Safely Refresher course is available to those who have already completed the full Managing Safely course.

› Assessing risks - using established systems and processes 
› Controlling risks - using the hierarchy of control in practical situations
› Understanding responsibilities – of all organisational stakeholders in operating within the law
› Understanding hazards – by exploring the categories they fall into, their effects and symptoms and how to manage them
› Investigating incidents – using a structured approach and understanding the reasons for doing so 
› Measuring performance – to ensure a safe place of work and taking action in response to underperformance

Course Objectives

› Define the key terms relating to safety and health 
› Identify how the law can have an impact on safety and health in the workplace 
› Describe how to assess, reduce, and control risk in the workplace 
› Identify workplace hazards and risks, their impact and how to manage them 
› Identify how to evaluate and respond to an incident 
› List the benefits and characteristics of an effective health and safety management system 
› Describe the principles that underpin good safety and health performance

Assessment and Implementation

Knowledge and comprehension - Learners are required undertake an assessment under examination conditions, which consists of 30 questions 

› Practical application of learning - Learners are required to complete a workplace risk assessment using either the standard IOSH form or their own company form. This is to be completed within two weeks of the end of the course. 
› Your trainer will provide full support throughout, ensuring that you are well prepared for the assessment
