The 6-hour course covers basic areas of first aid for both babies and children, focusing on life-threatening conditions and injuries. The course is structured so that each student gets the opportunity to practice life-saving skills with other students in a fun, welcoming and friendly environment. This makes sure students are fully prepared for any medical situation when they return to work. The course covers the requirements set out by Department for Education Statutory framework for early years’ foundation stage guidelines, published March 2017.
In line with Ofsted Early Years and Childcare Register requirements, at least one person who has a current full paediatric first aid certificate must be on the premises and available at all times when children are present, and must accompany children on outings. Childminders, and any assistant who might be in sole charge of the children for any period of time, must hold a current full paediatric first aid certificate. It is then discretionary for each setting; how many additional members of staff are trained in either the Level 3 Full Paediatric First Aid or the Level 2 Emergency Paediatric First Aid.
Who Should Attend:
Recently the government announced that all newly qualified childcare staff are required to complete a compulsory paediatric first aid training course. This means if you work in a nursery, pre-school, after school club, reception or primary school, you will need to have either the Full Paediatric First Aid or the Emergency Paediatric First Aid certification. These courses are crucial for anyone who has the responsibility of looking after children
