Cable Avoidance - CAT and Genny Training

Cable Avoidance training, teaches individuals how to safely locate and detect underground services before excavation work begins.

This training is crucial for preventing accidents, injuries, and costly damage to underground utilities. 

In this training we provide a practical session with street plans and the use of a Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT) and Signal Generator (Genny).
 
The  training includes:

•    Understanding the equipment:
Learning the different modes and functions of the CAT and Genny, as well as their limitations. 
 
•    Locating underground services:
Identifying the presence of underground utilities like power cables, gas pipes, and other metallic services. 
 
•    Safety practices:
Adhering to safety guidelines and regulations, including HSG47, to minimize risks associated with underground services. 
 
•     Practical application:
Hands-on experience using the CAT and Genny to locate and trace underground services, including practical sessions to ensure proficiency. 
 
•    Interpreting site plans:
Reading and understanding site plans to identify potential underground utilities. 

•    Hazard identification:
Recognizing potential hazards associated with underground services and taking appropriate precautions. 
 
The purpose of the training is:
•    To understand the legal requirements for locating and marking underground utilities before excavation. 
 
•    Prevents accidental strikes on underground utilities, reducing the risk of injury, death, and property damage. 
 
•    Avoiding damage to underground services can prevent costly repairs, project delays, and potential legal liabilities.
