Show your customers and employers that you are serious about health and safety, by completing a CITB Site Safety Plus course. Site Safety Plus courses are designed to address specialist roles within the construction industry. The specifications for these courses are devised by the CITB and in addition, these site safety plus courses are recognised through the UK. So no matter which provider you choose to deliver the course, you can be sure it will meet the CITB standards. If you want to save time, contact an online training solutions provider to help you with your search. They have the facilities to compare different courses, in different locations and find the best dates and prices for you.
One of the most well known of all the CITB Site Safety Plus courses is the SMSTS or Site Managers Safety Training Scheme. Running over five working days, the course is designed to make managers aware of all the possible risks to health and safety that occur on site. These include: working at height, CDM regulations, Health and safety at work Act 1974, risk assessments, working with electricity, demolitions and in confined spaces.
The CITB SMSTS course is available in three modes of delivery. The first is day release, where delegates attend a training provider's venue, once a week, over a duration of five weeks. The second is a block course, where delegates attend the training provider's venue for a full working week. The third is an in-house or dedicated course, where a trainer will come to your site and train a group of your workers, all at the same time. This means that there is always an option to suit you, whether you have one or two delegates or a larger group of up to 20. Bear in mind that savings can be made if you train a large group together, as the delegates will not have to travel to the providers site.
Another popular CITB course is the Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme or SSSTS. This is a two day course, specifically designed to brief site supervisors on their health and safety responsibilities. It covers legislation, areas of risk and how to supervise in an effective way. Like the SMSTS the SSSTS is available in locations all over the UK. But unlike the SMSTS, most courses only run as either a two day block or dedicated course.
Both the CITB SMSTS and SSSTS courses offer a refresher option to delegates who have successfully passed the full course. To be eligible to take the shorter, cheaper refresher options, delegates’ certificates must have been issued less than 5 years and 6 months before the course date. This is because the CITB certificates last for 5 years, and they grant an additional grace period of six months. After this time, delegates must complete the full course again, regardless of whether they have done it before or not.
The newest Site Safety Plus course available is the two day Site Sustainability Simplified. This is designed for anyone that has responsibility for minimising the environmental and social impact of construction. The course covers topics such as BREeAM, Transport, archaeology, heritage, water, waste and biodiversity.
