NEBOSH course selection
Question one, do I need a general or a subject specific course?
There are two general NEBOSH certificate training
the national general and the international general. They are both made up of three modules and address occupational health and safety issues relevant to a range of fields. In the general courses you can expect to cover issues such as Foundations in health and safety, policy, organisation, planning, management and auditing. In addition to workplace hazards, musculoskeletal hazards, workplace equipment, electrical safety, fire safety, chemical and biological hazards and physical and psychological hazards.
There are however, some areas of occupational health and safety where more specific knowledge is needed. NEBOSH addresses these through their specialised courses which include NEBOSH construction certificate
fire safety, oil and gas, NEBOSH environmental course
and health and well being. Each course is tailored specicially for there field and contains information that customised for the type of issues candidates may come across.
Question two, do I need a distance learning or a classroom based course? The second question that you need to answer when booking a NEBOSH
course is whether you want to do the it in a classroom environment or as a distance learning course? The classroom environment has some distinct advantages.
Firstly candidates benefit from having the tutor on hand to provide guidance and answer questions as they occur. Secondly the classroom course mostly run as block courses meaning they can be a quicker option. Thirdly candidates completing classroom courses, can benefit from the others on the course, in discussions.
However the distance learning course strength’s include being significantly cheaper than a classroom course, and minimising commute time and costs as candidates will only need to travel for the exams. Secondly candidates can chose to work through th materials at their own pace, focusing their time on the elements they feel need the most work.
Lastly distance courses also include support from tutors and other candidates through social media groups, email and telephone support.
Questions three, do I need a national or international course? The last question you need to ask, when you a booking a NEBOSH certificate
course is whether you need an international or national course. The general certificate, fire certificate and construction certificate are all available as both national and international courses. While the national and international courses both address similar issues the main difference is that the international course leaves out all the UK specific information.
