How the NEBOSH construction certificate works.
The
NEBOSH construction certificate is spilt into three units of learning. It covers the basis of health and safety practice, specifics of the construction industry and provides an opportunity to test you understanding.
One of the most unique aspect of the
NEBOSH construction course is that it not only provides you with the knowledge to deal with occupational health and safety in construction, but that it also provide you with the chance to apply your theoretical learning to a real world situation.
The part of the
NEBOSH construction course that involves this practical assessment is known as NCC2 Construction Health and Safety Practical Application. There is a recommendation for two hours tutor time and six personal study time for this module. The assessment itself, should take two hours and must be done within 14 days of taking the other
NEBOSH construction modules.
Candidates will be asked to perform a health and safety evaluation of a workplace and complete a report including recommendations for the management. There is no additional content as all necessary knowledge will be covered in the other modules. The advantage of completing a course that includes an assessment like this is that it proves that you can utilise the theory you have gained to have a practical effect on genuine situations.
The other modules in the
NEBOSH construction course are known as NGC1 and NCC1. NGC1 or Management of Health and Safety is common to many
NEBOSH courses . It does not cover any one specific industry, but addresses the foundations of health and safety systems, planning and management.
NCC1 is the construction specific unit of learning. This covers many different modules all linked directly the hazards construction employees face in the work place. These include but are not limited to demolition, excavation, fire electricity, and harm to persons.
Both the NGC1 and NCC1 modules are assessed by a two hour exam. Both exams consist of ten short answer questions and one long answer or essay styles question. A successful candidate will need to pass all three modules to gain their
NEBOSH construction certificate.
