Promoting Safety
The SMSTS training is a five day course. It promotes health and safety on site by covering how to identify and minimise common risks such as: working in confined spaces, fire risk, manual handling, control of substances hazardous to health (COSHH), controlling lead and asbestos.
The SMSTS training course also includes key legislation and regulations that site managers need to be aware of. These include: The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998, Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 and the Construction Design & Management Regulations (CDM) 1994. In addition, the course also covers monitoring health and safety systems and how to manage and train your team successfully.
Achievement and Recognition
The SMSTS training course is approved by the Construction Training Industry Board (CITB) and as such, is recognised by employers and clients alike as a quality product. As the CITB is one of the leading national construction awards organisations, the recognition that the SMSTS training course gives you could assist you in a number of ways. You could use this qualification to assist you in gaining a position with a new employer, being promoted by your current employer or in demonstrating your commitment to safe working practcies to potential customers.
Convenient Options
Another key advantage in completing the SMSTS training, is that it is so easy to find one that will fit in with your schedule. There are block and day release options, as well as dedicated, in-house options available.
If you have a medium to large group of delegates that all need SMSTS training, the in-house option is probably the most cost effective for you. It means a saving on travel costs for each of your delegates, in addition to the savings made by putting multiple delegates onto the same course.
The day release option is perfect for you, if you will find it tough to leave your site for a full week. It runs over one day a week for five weeks, allowing you to complete the CITB time requirements, and still be available on site for a large percentage of the time.
The block option, runs over a full working week and is best for you, if you need to get the course done as quickly as possible. As long as you pass the short assessment at the end of the course, and the trainer is happy with your contribution throughout, you can be done and dusted in a week. Many training providers will also provide you will a letter of attendance, while you are waiting for your certificate to arrive.
Even better, once you have passed the initial five day course, you can renew your qualification by completing a two day refresher. This is due after five years and the CITB grant a six month grace period which allows you even more time to get this cheaper and shorter course done!
