SPA Course - Mineral Products
The Safety Pass Alliance (SPA) Scheme has been developed to enhance the knowledge and working skills of workers in a wide range of sectors including, Mineral Products, Food and Drink, Petrol Retail and Water.
Formerly known as the SPA Quarry course, the SPA Mineral Products course is tailored to those who work with mineral products and associated plant and equipment. This is a 2-day course, with Day 1 the “Core Day” and Day 2 focused specifically on the Mineral Products sector.
Course Detail
The first Core Day of training covers the basics of good health and safety practices.
The second day is focused on the specifics when working with mineral products.
Course content includes:
- Relevant legislation and Regulations governing this sector.
- Blasting and precautions, unprotected edges, crushers, excavations and confined spaces, tips and lagoons, quicksand type material, conveyors and processing equipment, bitumen, cement, railways and docks.
- Modules relating to mobile plant, access and working at height, health risks in quarries and environmental considerations.
The Two Day SPA Course
The 2-day course combines the Core day and the Sector specific day for Mineral Products.
Note:- Those who already hold a qualification in other training course schemes or have 3 months or more remaining before expiry date may be exempt from sitting the Core Day element from a previous SPA Qualification can book a 1-day course just for the sector specific training in Mineral Products.
Qualifications that enable exemption from the Core Day element are:
- CCNSG Passport to Safety
- IOSH Working Safely, IOSH Managing Safely or IOSH Supervising Safely
- NEBOSH Certificate or NEBOSH Diploma
- CITB SSSTS, CITB SMSTS, or CITB Site Safety for Shopfitters and Interior Contractors
- CIEH Basic Health and Safety (replaced by Level 2)
- FÁS Safe Pass
- ADT H&S module
- Rentokill SHE Training module
The One Day SPA Renewal Course
A one-day renewal/refresher course can be completed up to six months prior to the passport expiring. If a passport has expired, the holder will not be eligible to attend a renewal course.
Course Delivery
SPA Mineral Products courses are delivered in conventional classroom-based environments across the UK.
Those who successfully complete the requirements of the two-day SPA training course and assessment will achieve certification, which is valid for three years.
Renewal options are available for those who need to renew their SPA Passport after 3 years.
