The Temporary Works Coordinator course is tailored for those on site with responsibility for managing all forms of temporary works. It is designed so that senior management and those who engage with contractors have confidence they are working to an assessed standard through established procedures and knowledge of the temporary works.

The CDM Regulations 2015 states that all alteration, demolition, dismantling work and excavations should be carefully planned and carried out by competent people to avoid unplanned incidents.

The HSE advice contains within the SIM 02/2010/04 ‘The management of temporary works in the construction industry’ states the correct design and execution of temporary works is an essential element of risk prevention and mitigation in construction. Contractors should have temporary works procedures including Temporary Works Co-ordinator and adequate control of installation using Temporary Works Supervisors.

Course Objectives:

 
By the end of the Construction Industry Training Board Temporary Works Coordinator course, the delegate will understand the need for a temporary works co-ordinator and the day to day roles of others involved in the temporary works procedures. They also gain knowledge of risk assessments, method statements and best procedures as stated in BS5975:2008+A1:2011. The knowledge established can be used to manage the process for safe use of temporary structures on building sites.

The content covered by the CITB Temporary Works Coordinator course includes:

- Various groups and types of Temporary Works.
- Case studies, procedures and policies of Temporary Works.
- BS5975:2008+A1:2011.
- Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations.
- Legislation and relevant Codes of Practice.
- Register for Temporary Works, design requirements and checks.
- Standard solutions and guidance design documents.
- Temporary Works Co-ordinator – job role and responsibilities.

What is Required to Pass the CITB Temporary Works Coordinator Course?

To successfully complete Temporary Works Coordinator course will need to get 72% or above in the final exam. As such, the delegates are prompted to be interactive and involved throughout the training.

Entry Requirements:

Delegates must have an understanding of spoken and written English. We also suggest that the attendee has a decent background knowledge of temporary works.

It is recommended that the person attending has access to the BS 5975 code of practice for temporary works, however relevant information will be provided on the day. The tutor also advises that candidates have experience in being responsible for managing all forms of temporary works.

Further Development:

The CITB certificate is valid for 5 years. In addition, the certificate can only be renewed by doing the course again.
