The course is intended for Company Directors. Even if you are not directly responsible for Health & Safety in your company, in your role as a Company Director you have joint responsibility with your fellow directors under Health and Safety legislation.

You’ll be encouraged to explore your legal responsibilities and consider how boardroom decisions impact on the health and safety of your workforce and there will be open-forum workshops to facilitate stimulating discussion.

This one-day interactive course has been designed for company Directors with the aim of recognising the human and financial implications of health and safety legislation non-compliance

Aims & Objectives

The delegate will gain knowledge and understanding in:

- moral, economic and legal costs and implications of making decisions
- strategic management of risks
- consequences of failed health and safety management
- importance of competent duty holders, and cooperating, communicating and coordinating health and safety on projects
- appointment of competent health and safety assistance
- basic tools to introduce a proactive health and safety culture into an organisation.

At the end of the day the delegates will be able to:

- recognise the moral, economic and legal costs/implications of decisions made in the boardroom that make their business liable
- understand the importance of strategic management of risks
- appreciate the consequences of failing to manage health & safety effectively
- understand the importance of competent duty holders cooperating, communicating and coordinating health and safety throughout the whole project
- recognise the need to appoint competent health and safety assistance, and the limitations of such an appointment
- identify the basic tools for introducing a proactive health and safety culture into their organisation.

- HSE INDG417 – Leading health and safety at work

Assessment

The method of assessment is by examination (multiple choice questions) at the end of the course as well as continuous assessment through interactive sessions.

Certification

Certificates are issued by Construction Skills and are valid for 5 years.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course; however, it was developed for directors of any organisational size in construction, civil engineering or allied trades, and therefore this should be considered before enrolling delegates on to this course.

 

To be able to attend the course, delegates will be expected to have either previously completed the DRHS course, or have a working knowledge of relevant H&S legislation. 

For courses from January 2022 you will also be a required to complete a free e-Learning course prior to your start date. All delegates must then submit their certificate prior to starting the course, failure to do so will mean you can’t take the course.
