Course training for the SPA Mineral Products course (previously known as SPA Quarry) is over two days. The common SPA core session is the first day of training and ensures that delegates grasp the basics of good health and safety practices. The second day is focused on the specific when working with mineral products, including, blasting and precautions, unprotected edges, crushers, excavations and confined spaces, tips and lagoons, quicksand type material, conveyors and processing equipment, bitumen, cement, railways and docks. There are also modules relating to mobile plant, access and working at height, health risks in quarries, and environmental considerations.
Note:- The SPA passport schemes currently recognise exemptions from the SPA Core Day for delegates who have completed and passed the following training courses and have 3 months or more remaining on their evidence of exemption. These exemptions include:
Those who successfully complete the requirements of the two-day SPA training course and assessment will achieve certification, which is valid for three years.
A one-day renewal/refresher course can be completed up to six months prior to the passport expiring. If a passport has expired, the holder will not be eligible to attend a renewal course.
