SPA Course - Core Day

The Safety Pass Alliance (SPA) Scheme has been developed to enhance the knowledge and working skills of workers in a wide range of sectors including Food and Drink, Petrol Retail and Mineral Products.

The SPA Core Day course has been designed to teach delegates the basics of good health and safety practices. It can be booked either as a 1-day independent course (such courses can be found in this category) or as a component part of a sector scheme program such as SPA Food & Drink, Mineral Products, or Petrol Retail.

Note:- Delegates may need to undertake only the Core Day training if they have need to sit the CITB Health and Safety Environment Test at an approved test centre, as passing this course provides the equivalent of a Level 1 QCF qualification. As such, they may not need to sit any other training in a specific sector.

Course Detail

The Core Day aspect of SPA training focuses solely on good health and safety basics.

The 1-day independent SPA Core Day course provides basic information on all areas of health, safety and the environment, and the responsibilities of the delegate in these areas. It aims to impart the implications of undertaking risk assessments, hazard recognition and the effects these will have on both individuals and the employer.

Core Day training is split into a set of modules, focusing on various aspects such as the workplace, tools, plant, machinery and health.

Topics covered in this course include:

• The legal responsibilities of employers and employees, enforcing authorities and hazard identification.
• Making a safe workplace including safe behaviour, hazards, working at height and working in confined spaces.
• The risks presented by using tools, plant and machinery, both powered and non-powered.
• Controlling substances hazardous to health
• Current and future environmental requirements including waste control.

Course Delivery

SPA Core Day courses are delivered in conventional classroom-based environments across the UK.

Those who successfully complete this course will receive the equivalent of the level 1 QCF qualification which is required to sit the CITB Health and Safety Environment Test at an approved test centre.
