CPCS (A02) - Crawler Crane Training & Testing

The CPCS Crawler Crane course is aimed at those operating a crawler crane in a construction environment. There are 2 levels available; Foundation and Experienced.

• Operators with past experience can take an Experienced Worker CPCS course, which may be more suitable depending on individual circumstances.

 

If you are a Private Individual looking to obtain a CPCS card for a Crawler Crane, the implications are very different from those of a CITB registered construction company. All delegates must have passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test no more than two years before the course start date and have a good understanding of both spoken and written English.

Successful candidates will receive the CPCS Red Card (Trained Operator) in the crawler crane training category, which is valid for 2 years.

CPCS Course Detail

This CPCS training course will provide delegates with a comprehensive understanding of operating a crawler crane, including practical and theoretical knowledge. The aim is to ensure candidates can carry out their role as crawler crane driver in a competent, safe manner after passing both the CPCS theory and practical tests.

This course also includes elements of maintenance to ensure the crane is always operating correctly.

This CPCS course includes the following elements:

• Safe, productive crane operation
• How to recognise and understand crane signals
• Crane positioning, including altering jib lengths and associated safety devices
• Routine maintenance
• The basic theory of power units, control systems and transmission systems
• Programming and understanding safe load indicators and duties charts
• Relevant legislation, statutory regulations and Codes of Practice
• Safe slinging and an understanding of the types and capacities of chains, slings and lifting gear
• Structural strength, including the effect of shock loading, stability and load displacement

Please note that this CPCS category is usually deemed to be ‘Off Centre’ so the course can be taken as a dedicated course at your own site but will from time to time have open course dates.
