Introduction
Designed for all contractor site personnel who work on petrol retail forecourts operating under the Safety Pass Alliance (SPA).
The SPA Safety Passport Scheme is an industry led solution to the problem of providing adequate and auditable safety training for all employees and self- employed who should as a result, be able to work at significantly less risk to themselves and others. Companies who have adopted the Safety Passport Scheme have seen demonstrable reductions in accident rates.
Course Duration
The trainer offer this training as a 2 day course. The first day will cover the Core day syllabus, whilst the second day focuses on the Petrol Retail syllabus.

Who Should Attend?
This course is designed for all contractor site personnel who work on petrol retail forecourts and is operating under the Safety Pass Alliance.
Day 1 - Core Day
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course delegates will have the knowledge to:
- Demonstrate their understanding of the subjects by successfully completing each module assessment paper
- Appreciate how they can personally influence health, safety and environmental standards
- Understand the value of risk assessment and have the knowledge to recognise when change to a generic assessment are required
- Understand the common hazards associated with their working environment.
Module 1 - Organising for Safety
Will give delegates an understanding of the legal responsibilities of employers and employees, the role of enforcing authorities, what makes a vulnerable worker, hazard identification and control.
Module 2 - The Workplace
This module examines what constitutes a safe place of work, safe behaviour, hidden services, working at height, asbestos, confined spaces and permit-to-work.
Module 3 - Tools, Plant and Machinery
This session will give delegates an understanding of the risks presented by both powered and non powered work equipment and the risks associated with the various forms of energy created. In addition the risks faced with the use of workplace transport.
Module 4 - Health
This module highlights the risks and controls for substances hazardous to health, together with other ill health risks from workplace activities including musculoskeletal problems and effects of noise and stress. In addition candidates will be made aware of the varied precautions which can be taken.
Module 5 - Procedures
Candidates will be shown the need for, and benefits of safe working procedures, including local emergency procedures and first aid arrangements.
Module 6 - The Environment
This module covers current and future environmental requirements, safe storage and marking of waste, waste control hierarchies and emergency planning in the event of problems.
Day 2 - Petrol Retail

Exemptions:
At present the SPA passport scheme recognises that delegates who have completed and passed the following training courses and have 3 months or more remaining on their evidence of exemption do not need to attend the SPA passport scheme Core training day:

Renewal
A one day refresher course must be completed before the expiry date of the passport.
