Who is the course for?

If you passed your HGV License prior to 10th September 2009 you need to make sure you complete 35 hours of approved driver CPC training by September 10th 2014.

European legislation dictates that drivers of any vehicles over 3.55 tonnes that have not completed the 35 hours of training by September 10th 2014 can have their license cancelled by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency.

How is the course delivered?

Your course of approved training is delivered in a classroom type environment with an emphasis on group participation and discussion to ensure use of best practice is achieved. During the day you will complete two courses on different subjects to help ensure that you will be able to continue to drive in a safe and efficient manner.

At the end of each course you will complete a multiple choice assessment paper to prove your knowledge and competence in the training subject covered.

What courses are available?

Each of the courses below are 3.5 hours in duration (including breaks) and are JAUPT approved and as such, count towards the 35 hours you require.

- Driver CPC card (after completion of 35 hours)

Frequently asked questions:

I have been driving safely for years, why do I need to complete driver CPC training?

New European legislation means that if you do not complete the training your license could be cancelled. The broader aims of the scheme are to:

Raise the knowledge and skills of HGV drivers by:

- Improving road safety
- Reducing the impact on the environment through reduced fuel usage and vehicle maintenance.
- Raise the public's perception of professional HGV drivers

How long will it take for me to receive my Driver CPC card?

After you have carried out 35 hours of approved training, your card will be sent to your home address as listed with DVSA.

When will my Driver CPC be uploaded to the DVSA database?

Within 5 working days of you attending your Driver CPC course we will ensure that it is showing on the DVSA database.

I hold an LGV license and do occasional driving for an agency although this is not my main jo. Does CPC apply to me?

Yes, if you are driving professionally for any period of time you will be required to hold CPC. It is not the number of hours worked which affects the requirement for CPC, it is the type of driving undertaken.

Do I need CPC training to drive in Europe?

Yes, the regulations apply in all EU member states.

How will Driver CPC affect foreign nationals who drive HGC's in the UK but don't work and live here?

Driver CPC applies across all EU Member States therefore all of those drivers will have to carry whatever their home country uses to evidence Driver CPC.
The course either has new dates in data loading, or is only run as a dedicated or In Company course.
