What’s It About?
This Level 2 Principles of Manual Handling course aims to develop the candidates understanding of the principles of safe manual handling. It aims to apply what they have learnt to their working environment and therefore makes their work practices safer.
Who Should Attend:
It is suitable for all employees to raise their awareness of the risks of unsafe manual handling practices. It is also perfect for people who might have to carry out manual handling as part of their job.
The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 apply to almost all work environments from offices to care homes and factories.
This course is a theory based qualification. Candidates who need practical training should attend the one day Level 2 Award in Safe Moving and Handling course.
Why’s It Important?
Employers are required by the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 to ensure that all employees are trained and competent in manual handling.
Injuries caused by Manual Handling are responsible for over one third of the accidents and lost working time which occur in the workplace. Not only is the individual affected, the costs to businesses and society can be enormous.
Inappropriate manual handling can result in your employees suffering immediate acute injuries such as sprains, strains, torn ligaments and even fractures, as well as long term chronic conditions affecting the back, shoulders, wrists, elbows and knees.
The cost of ignoring the need for manual handling training can be expensive. If employees have time off work with poor health related to manual handling, this will cost your business money. In addition, fines and compensation payments for incidents relating to manual handling have reached over £100,000.
What Will You Gain?
By attending this Level 2 Principles of Manual Handling course, your employees will understand the causes of common manual handling injuries and the types of injury poor manual handling can cause.
They will also understand the manual handling regulations, including the responsibilities of employers and employees.
When they return to the workplace, they will be able to undertake an effective manual handling risk assessment and understand the control measures they can put in place to reduce the risk of harm and how to implement them.
You will be able to demonstrate compliance with legislation and prove due diligence through training records and certificates. In addition, you, your business, your employees and your customers will be protected.
