£80 per delegate

Duration: 0.5 days

What’s It About?

The term COSHH is an abbreviation of “the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health”. It is concerned with preventing damage to a person’s health through exposure to harmful substances. This exposure can be through various means including inhalation, ingestion and absorption through the skin.

This Level 2 COSHH course is designed to give your employees the knowledge of the health risks surrounding work with hazardous substances. It includes how to undertake a COSHH assessment and working safely with hazardous substances.

Who Should Attend?

This half day course is ideal for those who work with or are exposed to hazardous substances. Hazardous substances include chemicals (that people make or work with directly), dust, fumes and bacteria.

Why’s It Important?

Under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002, regulation 12 states that; ‘every employer who undertakes work, which is liable to expose an employee to a substance hazardous to health, shall provide that employee with suitable and sufficient information, instruction and training.’

Every year, thousands of workers are made ill by hazardous substances, contracting lung disease such as asthma, cancer and dermatitis. These diseases cost many millions of pounds each year to businesses, society and individuals.

The employer is responsible for taking effective measures to control exposure and protect health. If you fail to adequately control hazardous substances, and people become ill, it may result in lost productivity. It could also result in possible enforcement action, prosecution and compensation claims from your employees.

What Will You Gain?

By attending this Level 2 COSHH course your employees will know how to identify hazardous substances in their workplace. They will also understand the effects that hazardous substances can cause.

They will also understand COSHH legal regulations including the responsibilities of employers and employees.

On returning to the workplace, they will know what to consider when conducting a COSHH risk assessment. They will understand the importance of health surveillance for those who work with hazardous substances.

The benefit of this will be improved productivity as a result of using more effective controls (e.g. less use of raw material), improved employee morale and a better employee understanding and compliance with health and safety requirements.
