IOSH Managing Safely
Firstly lets look at the managing safely IOSH course
It is aimed at a range of professionals where health and safety is an element of their role such as managers, supervisors and safety advisors. The objective of the course is to equip these professionals to manage effectively and avoid risk to their workforce, the companies’ property or members of the public. The course runs over four days and address such topics as: principles of safety management, risk assessment, caused of accidents, accident prevention, improving health and safety performance, legislation, communication skills to ensure that health and safety is accounted for, common hazards and how to avoid them and controlling specialised hazards.
Managing Safely IOSH courses
are assed in two ways. The first is a 45 minute exam comprising of 20 questions. You will not be able to use your notes for this and it will be conducted in exam conditions. The second is a practical assessment, testing the delegates’ skills in applying what they have learnt in the course to their own workplace, Successful completion of both of these elements results in a pass.
IOSH Working Safely
The shorter working safely IOSH courses
runs for a single day. It is aimed at any employee that needs to be aware of health and safety in their work. The aim of working safely IOSH training
is to enable workers to identify risks and hazards in the work place, use precautions to prevent these risks, assist managers in writing written reports on health and safety and keep to the health and safety policy of the organisation.
A lot of topics covered in the one day IOSH working safely course including: Identifying common hazard and how to deal with these such as fire, electricity, slips trips and falls, noise, chemicals and work traffics, risk assessments, using precautions for specific tasks, hoe to improve safety performance, permits to work, PPE, Signage, emergency procedures, health check, accident reporting, contract work, protecting the environment, waste control, pollution control and inspections. Assessment for the IOSH working safely course is by a short multiple choice test at the end of the day.
IOSH Directly Safely
Another single day IOSH courses
is the IOSH directing safely. Aim at senior executives and directors; the aim of the course is to provide them, the top level decision makers, with the knowledge and skill to effectively deal with health and safety in their organisation. The course covers the following topics: The causes of accidents, terminology including manslaughter and corporate killing, the reasons for promoting health and safety in the workplace, definition of a directors role in health and safety, health and safety at work Act 1974, strategic management and planning, safety management systems, the need for health and safety training, active monitoring and performance indicators. Assessment for this IOSH training
is by a short exam paper at the end of the day.
IOSH managing / working with environmental responsibilities.
Some of the more recent IOSH courses
on the market deal with environmental responsibilities. There are two courses to choose from, one at the management level (IOSH managing environmental responsibilities) and one at the employee level (IOSH working with environmental responsibilities).
Lets look at the management course first: Four days in length the, this IOSH course
is designed for those implementing an environmental management system. The course covers a wide range of topics including: Atmospheric emissions, legislation, waste management, pollution, IAO14001, energy, risk management, statutory nuisances, pesticides and herbicides and assessing the impact of factors on the environment. Assessment of this course is by workplace project and a short exam.
The IOSH working with environmental responsibilities is the shorter, single day course aimed at getting employees to be aware of and onboard with environmental protection. Covering two modules this courses addresses working with the environment (module 1) and protecting the environment (module 2). Delegates can expect to cover topic such as: defining terms like environment, pollution, risk and hazard, how workplace activities effect the environment, identifying hazards in the workplace, environmental management systems, your companies EMS, your own role in the EMS.
