Supervisor Safety Training - the ticket to your future
In relation to the construction industry, where the consequences of accidents can be more dangerous than in other sectors, ensuring that your staff are well trained is crucial. Having a well trained team is a vital part of being an effective employer. Not only does this ensure that they do their job well, to a good standard and on time, it also ensures that they safeguard the welfare of those they work with. In addition providing suitable training for your employees helps to meet the responsibilities placed on employers in regard to health and safety.
A vital part of any construction team is the supervisor. A good supervisor will be able to manage their team with skill, enabling the job in hand to be completed in a safe and efficient way. A key way of ensuring that your supervisors are achieving their full potential is to ensure that they receive
supervisor safety training.
The SSSTS course, endorsed by the CITB is the most well renowned of all
supervisor safety training courses. It is a testament to its popularity, that it is run regularly in locations across the UK, by a numerous different training providers. In fact, the issue that many delegates have when searching for a course is not finding the course itself, but finding the best price, location or date to suit them. The hassle of this can be removed by consulting an online search facility. They can do the leg work, comparing what each provider offers to find you the best deal.
The SSSTS is a short course, running over two days at a relatively small outlay in cost and time for the benefits of
supervisor safety training. The course covers the UK legislation that supervisors need to be aware of and key issues such as risk awareness and reduction. The course also adheres to the UKCG guidelines on supervisor training, in that it addresses the “how” of supervisor safety training, as well as the “what.” This means that it covers how to be an effective supervisor as well as what the supervisor should know. Specifically the SSSTS course is focused around the following topics; Manual handling, PPE, Working at Heights, UK legislation, CoSHH, Fire prevention and first aid.
A
supervisor safety training course such as this, that meets the UKCG standards, is particularly beneficial as it allows the individual access to work at the largest and most prestigious construction sites in the UK.
The SSSTS is assessed via a short multiple choice test at the end of the course and the ticket is then valid for five years. After this time the CITB offer a six month grace period in which to renew the card. This has traditionally been done by repeating the full two day course, but the CITB are about to introduce a one day SSSTS refresher course, in the same vein as the SMSTS refresher. This means that it is even easy to keep up to date with developments in legislation. It also provides a refresher for your supervising skills.
