Managers reduce risk on site! Get the right training! Get SMSTS training!
In a dangerous trade such as construction, the more competently trained individuals the better. Competently trained managers can protect not only their own safety, but improve the safety of their team. The Site Managers Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) encourages this by covering the legal responsibilities of a manager, potential hazards on a construction site, how to deliver tool box talks and safety briefings. In fact, the UKCG (United Kingdom Contractors Group), require all their site managers to complete this course before working on one of their contracts.
SMSTS training is a five day course, designed specifically for those with full responsibility for construction sites. Team leaders should complete the shorter two day course (SSSTS or Site Supervisors Safety Training) complied specifically for site supervisors. SMSTS training is three days longer than SSSTS training, as it goes into more depth and covers the greater range of responsibilities that the site manager has.
Where can I do an SMSTS course?
SMSTS training is available through the UK. There are hundreds of training providers that offer this, both as an in-house and open option. The open option is where you will travel to the trainer's venue and attend the course with other delegates. An in house option is where a trainer will come to your site to deliver the course. This is an excellent choice for those businesses who have more than four delegates that they need to get trained. You must have four or more delegates for the trainer to visit you, because the CITB specifications require a minimum of four people on the course. By paying a trainer's fee once, rather than a course fee four or more times you can save a substantial amount of money. Compare quotes from training providers to get the best price.
When can I get my SMSTS course done?
Most trainers run
SMSTS training regularly as either block or day release courses. Day release courses run across five weeks, usually on the same day once a week, and are an excellent choice for those delegates who need to get their qualification done, but cannot be spared from work for a full week. Block courses run across consecutive week days and are most suitable for those that need to get their SMSTS as quickly as possible. It is worth noting that day release course days may be moved due to bank holidays. In addition, while many delegate do look for courses during holiday periods, these are less common and so get booked up very early.
How can I book an SMSTS course?
The best way to book SMSTS training is to contact an online service provider. They will then compare all the courses that they have on offer, making sure you get the cheapest option for your location and date range. They can then take your booking by phone or email making it super easy and quick for you.
