IOSH Courses - What are the different options?
As the largest health and safety body world wide, The Institute of Occupational Health and Safety (IOSH), offers an extensive range of IOSH courses
to suit a variety of training requirements, budgets and levels of expertise. IOSH courses
can be offered as open courses where the delegates travel to the trainer’s venue or if there is a larger group to be trained as an in-house course where the trainer will deliver at the customer’s site. There is also an e-learning option available for the IOSH Managing Safely course, perfect for those who cannot spare time away from work or for whom travel is problematic. So which of the IOSH courses are suitable for me?
Choosing the IOSH Directing Safely or the IOSH for Senior Executives course:
These one day IOSH courses
are available to those in a higher level management positions. They offer training in the obligations of directors or senior executives in relation to promoting and preserving health and safety in the companies for which they work. Both encourage participants to evaluate their company’s policies critically and make changes promoting improved health and safety if necessary. The Directing Safely course is suitable for those with responsibility for organisations with less than 250 employees, while the IOSH Senior Executives is focused more on issues pertaining to organisations with have more than 250 workers. Choosing the correct IOSH Managing Safely course:
IOSH Managing Safely covers health and safety issues across a range of work situations including office environments. For those already holding a IOSH Managing Safely Certificate, some trainers also offer the option to complete an IOSH Managing safely recertification course. This updates your knowledge whilst avoiding the time and cost issues of sitting the full course again.
The IOSH Managing Client / Contractor relationship course is for suitable for you if are dealing with clients and contractors and where you need to be up to date on your responsibilities under the current UK legislation.
If you are responsible for environmental concerns within your organisation, then the IOSH Managing Environmental Responsibilities might be the option for you.
IOSH Managing Safely in Construction is particularly tailored to a construction context as it is suited to those who are concerned with health and safety and Construction Design and Management (CDM). Is IOSH Working Safely for me?
IOSH Working Safely is designed to promote safe working behaviours by fostering a positive attitude of awareness. It is relevant to a range of work functions and roles. If you want to improve your health and safety awareness this could be the course for you!
IOSH Working Safely courses are often run in-house where an organisation has multiple delegates, and it can often be difficult to find spaces on open courses.
In addition to the course above there are a number of Working Safely IOSH courses
to suit more specialised needs. These include IOSH Working Safely in Facilities Management, which focuses on the health and safety aspects associated with commercial properties. IOSH Working Safely for Middle Management is particularly aimed at mid level managers concerned with writing COSHH assessments, while IOSH Working with environmental responsibilities includes the key aspects of environmental management and is best suited to those working in sector where preventing environmental damaging is a concern.
