NVQ Level 4 in Occupational Health and Safety Practice

The NVQ Level 4 in Occupational Health and Safety Practice is specific to people who are actively involved in the practice or management of health and safety as part of their job or role. The Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH) accepts this qualification for membership at Graduate level (GradIOSH) and upon completion of their Initial Professional Development (IPD) programme, candidates can achieve Chartered level membership (CMIOSH). The International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM) accept this qualification for full Member status (MIIRSM).

A National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) is a qualification that recognises the competence of a person in a work situation. Unlike traditional qualifications that rely on teaching and examinations, NVQs use performance on the job as a basis for assessment.

The NVQ Level 4 in Occupational Health and Safety Practice, is often seen as alternative to the NEBOSH Diploma route to ultimately achieve Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH), particulary for those who have little time to be absent from their workplace.

To achieve Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH) you must complete a comprehensive process. Initially, you must achieve Graduate Membership of IOSH through one of three routes – either the NVQ Level 4 in Health and Safety, a Diploma in Health and Safety or a cognate degree. There is no direct route to CMIOSH – every individual must achieve Graduate Membership and work upwards.
