Introduction
Top Man Safety Attendant Duties at Water UK Classification NC2, NC3 and NC4 Category confined spaces.
This is a City & Guilds of London Institute certificated competency based training and assessment course (City & Guilds Utilities Operations Scheme 5831 – Unit 825).
Who Should Attend
Persons nominated to perform the duties of a Top Man but who are not themselves required (nor allowed) to make confined space entries and who require pre-assessment training to prepare them for assessment in C&G 825.
Content
A review of the requirements of the Confined Spaces Regulations 1997 leads to an understanding of how to:
Interpret the Water UK Confined Spaces classification scheme
Risk assess residual hazards
Assemble, brief and deploy staff
Establish and maintain a safety zone
Determine and establish an adequate means of onsite and offsite communications
Open the confined space and confirm risk level
Establish control systems required by the risk assessment
Ensure all workers use PPE
Use and interpret gas monitors to verify safe atmospheres
Permit entry according to risk assessment methods
Control all work within the agreed risk assessment method
Recover workers, initiate all hygiene procedures
Close down the safety zone and the confined space
Understand the nature and occurrence of problem atmospheres
React positively in an emergency situation
Deal with an unconscious casualty and hand them over to the emergency services
Training Methods
A high proportion of hands-on demonstrations and practical exercises, supplemented with classroom based tutorials and pre and post course assessments.
Additional Information
Delegates should provide a passport photograph on the day of training for production of ID Cards. For courses held at our centre in Wellingborough we can provide this service on your behalf using our on-site digital camera.
Delegates attending this course should be physically and mentally fit to withstand the rigours of training.
The content of this course includes awareness of periodic examinations of equipment. The course does not provide full training in maintenance of equipment. Additional training relating to this subject may be of benefit to delegates (further information available upon request).
