- Explain the main features of relevant transport modes and make sound decisions on modal choice for each movement
- Exercise judgement in the selection of best technical solution to transport problems
- Demonstrate an appropriate level of knowledge of the regulatory framework within which your transport operations are conducted
- Effectively manage transport service contracts and contractors
- Supervise vehicle loading and load security
- Create safe and effective journey plans and supervise operations in accordance with the HSE policy, industry best practice and local legislation
- Create efficient and cost effective transport schedules using manual methods and understand the role of IT systems in transport scheduling
- Contribute to the development, planning and monitoring of transport operating budgets using fixed and flexible budget techniques
- Calculate the cost of the transport services provided and relate this to units of output and traffic volume
- Relate provision of transport to customer requirements and make sound judgements regarding prioritisation
- Communicate effectively with transport users
- Manage the relationship with their customers to ensure the highest level of satisfaction.
