Who Will Benefit from this course
This course is designed for first line supervisors and team leaders who have to manage people whilst still working as part of the team they supervise. It is the ideal course for those recently promoted into a supervisory position who want to understand how to supervise others effectively. It is also a very useful programme for those already in a supervisory role who have not had formal training or would like to refresh and update their skills.

Description of the course
The course introduces the role and responsibilities of the supervisor/team leader and covers the key skills necessary to make the transition from team member to team supervisor. Clear guidelines are given on each topic and exercises, case studies, role play, discussions and tutor feedback ensure the necessary skills are practiced. Self-assessment tools are used to help delegates relate the training points to their own team and situation.

The programme starts by identifying the role and responsibilities of the supervisor/team leader and the common problems faced when moving into this role. The difference between team leadership and team management is explored and the factors needed to create an effective team identified. The importance of controlling the team’s output and methods for doing this are looked at, including giving feedback, how to deal with problem behaviours, motivating people, delegation and giving clear instructions. The course also includes a section on improving personal effectiveness through improving personal efficiency.

Throughout the programme delegates are encouraged to identify specific actions to implement on their return to work.
