SMSTS Refresher (CITB) - Site Management Safety Training Scheme
Aims and Objectives
The two-day refresher course is for Delegates who have previously passed the full five-day (SMSTS) course and can provide proof of attendance. It aims to bring health and safety knowledge up to date, as well as giving a thorough overview of the legislative changes and their impact in the workplace. The course includes a wide range of topics many building on the previous five-day course programme as well as introducing new subjects.
The aims and objectives of the course are:
- to improve awareness of recent developments in construction, legislation and health, safety, welfare and environmental issues;
- to identify measures that will assist the practical implementation of responsibilities established by new legislation, and new working practices.
At the end of training, delegates will be:
- aware of, and able to implement all updated health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation which affects them in their role as a manager;
- aware of and able to implement new guidance and industry of best practice;
- more aware of their duties and responsibilities.
Who should attend?
Only those delegates who have passed the five-day Site Manager Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) course and can provide evidence of this are eligible to attend the two-day refresher course. Delegates must have passed the full SMSTS within five years of their refresher course to be eligible.
Course material
Each delegate will be issued with the official CITB Construction Skills workbook and supporting material to assist them both during and after the course – this material will contain information, guidance and forms to assist workers. The course is designed to be interactive, allowing delegates the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge with the support of the course tutor.
Course tutor
Our health and safety consultants are qualified and experienced professionals with a background in construction safety and health. All consultants hold professional membership of the chartered Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), a training qualification and are registered CITB Construction Skills trainers.
Duration
The course will be delivered over two days. Delegates must attend both days.
Certification
At the conclusion of the course delegates are required to undertake a short multiple choice assessment. Delegates who successfully complete the assessment are awarded the Construction Skills SMSTS Refresher Certificate.
