Overall Aims
On completion of this course delegates will understand: 
- The role and function of safety/employee representatives 
- The role and function of a safety committee 
- The processes of accident investigation and workplace inspection 
- The main legal requirements for health and safety and employers requirement to consult.

Who should attend?
This course has been developed to provide an understanding of the benefits of well-run safety committees and properly motivated safety representatives. It is suitable for newly appointed or existing health and safety representatives or employee representatives and is also ideal for all members of safety committees.

Prior knowledge
No prior knowledge required.

Pre-course preparation
Although it would be beneficial for delegates to be familiar with their company’s health and safety policy and safety committee arrangements no pre-course preparation is required.

- Principles of accident prevention 
- Sources of law 
- Civil and criminal liabilities 
- Consultation and involvement of employees 
- Functions of employee/safety representative and safety committees 
- Understanding hazards and risks 
- Monitoring safety performance 
- Accident reporting and investigation.

Qualification and Certification
All delegates who successfully complete the course in full will be awarded a RoSPA ‘Certificate of Training’.
