QuarkXPress Introduction
Pre-requisites
Delegates attending the Introduction to QuarkXPress course must be proficient in either a Windows or MAC environment. Although no previous experience of DTP is expected any understanding of the principles of layout and design will be beneficial.
Objectives
Work effectively with the basics of QuarkXPress. This course will also introduce delegates to layout, text and graphic tools enabling them to create, edit and produce a range of documents and send them to print or PDF.
QuarkXPress Principles
- QuarkXPress Interface, QuarkXPress tools, QuarkXPress palettes, measurements bar.
Document handling and layout basics
- Creating and saving documents, working with pages, grids, guides, rulers.
Colour
- Colour palette, adding colours, editing colours, apply colour, gradients, fills/stokes.
Text
- Basic text entry, text boxes, basic text formatting, importing text, positioning and linking text boxes.
Type
- Character formatting styles, paragraph formatting styles, creating and editing H & J's, optical margin alignment, leading, tracking & kerning, kerning table, ligatures, fractions, punctuation, indentation, justification, hyphenation.
Tabs
- Tabs and tab characters, tab leaders, tabs palette.
Images
- Image boxes, image files, basic text wrapping options.
Working with Bezier
- Bezier path tools, lines and shapes, text on a path, box shapes, merging boxes.
Output
- Print Options, collect for output, print to PDF.
