PTS Initial

This is the first course all trackside railway employees must attend prior to receiving a track safety certificate that will authorise them to work on or near the operational railway under the supervision of a controller of site safety.

The course is two days in duration and comprises of classroom based instruction, a site visit onto the operational railway followed by written and practical assessments.

Pre-requisites for attendance
The candidates must be sponsored and be in possession of pre-employment medical & negative drugs and alcohol screening certificates.

The candidate must be able to communicate in English.

Upon successful completion of the course the candidate will receive a sentinel track safety card valid for two years, at which point they will have to attend a one day recertification course.

During the two year period they will need to maintain a logbook, which will be issued by the training provider, all entries will be endorsed by the COSS and it must be reviewed by their manager at least twice between the two year period.

Failure to maintain the logbook will lead to loss of the PTS competence and another two day course would be required.

This course can be delivered at our training centre or at the clients premises (subject to specific criteria being met in relation to the training venue, requirements as specified by Achilles).
