Overview
PRINCE2™ (Projects IN a Controlled Environment) is a leading edge approach to managing
projects. With the launch of PRINCE2™ also came its recognition as the de-facto standard for
managing projects, not just in the IT/IS environment, but for projects of any size and complexity, run in any industry sector.

Pre-requisites
Delegates should have an understanding of project management but a knowledge of PRINCE2™
is not required.

Duration
This is a five- day course leading to the PRINCE2™ Foundation and Practitioner Examinations.

Examinations
The examination scheme is administered by the APM Group Ltd. The examination will comprise
of objective testing questions over nine syllabus areas selected from eleven topics. The
Foundation examination lasts one hour while the Practitioner exam last three hours.

Course Objectives
To provide delegates with a complete and practical understanding of the PRINCE2™ project
management method. To prepare delegates for both the Foundation and Practitioner Certificate
examinations in PRINCE2™. 

Course Contents
Introduction to PRINCE2™
The background, objectives, benefits, scope and structure of the method.
Project Organisation
Organisational structure, roles and responsibilities, the project management teams including the project board, project and team management. The roles of project assurance and project support, handling relationships with suppliers, programme management and the relationships with projects.
Planning
Purpose and importance of the planning components, types of plan, product identification and
specification, determining stages, planning techniques, product based planning, the steps in
planning.
Project Control
Work package authorisation, stage assessments, establishing project and stage tolerance,
checkpoints, highlight reports, handling exception situations, project issues, project reporting.
Risk Management
Types of business and project risk, risk analysis and management, the risk log.
Quality
Ensuring quality, quality planning, relationship with ISO9000, product descriptions, quality control, and quality review.
Change Control and Configuration Management
Change control steps, authority levels. Analysing the impact, configuration management.
Processes
Starting up a project, directing a project, initiating a project, managing stage boundaries,
controlling a stage, managing product delivery, closing a project, planning.
PRINCE2™ in practice
Tailoring PRINCE2™ for different business environments, scaling PRINCE2™ for use with
projects of different type and/or size, implementing PRINCE2™, project documentation and filing.

At the end of the course the delegate will be able to:
understand the need for project management and how PRINCE2™ meets that need; understand the PRINCE2™ process model and be able to apply it to a project appropriate to their level in the organisation •
They will also understand and be able to apply the Product-based Planning technique as well as Components such as Management of Risk and Change Control • This course also prepares delegates to take the PRINCE2™ Foundation and Practitioner examinations •
Delegates should be prepared to undertake 15 hours of pre-course study in the 2 weeks prior to their course and also revision/further study work in the evenings • Delegates will receive the pre-course work and a copy of the PRINCE2™ manual prior to their course start date.
