Practical TOGAF - International Certification of Enterprise Architects

Course Duration
5 Days

Practical TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework) is a five day course in which delegates will gain a comprehensive understanding of the body of knowledge required for registration, by the Open Group, as a certified TOGAF Architect. TOGAF is the most widely recognised method and framework for delivering Enterprise Architecture worldwide. The course is highly practical and qualification is achieved by an assessment of individual and group work output. The course consists of short lectures, hands-on exercises and assignments via a real world derived case study, ensuring comprehensive understanding of the principles taught. All Purple Griffon courses are delivered by authorised trainers who are highly experienced in their field. As an ISEB accredited ITIL training provider the provider of this course has delivered accredited ITIL training for a number of years and see Practical TOGAF as a natural extension of our training course portfolio.

Target Group
The target group for the Practical TOGAF course and certification are:

- Individuals who are currently working in a senior IT or business capacity, who want to gain more understanding of Enterprise Architecture (EA) or want to move into an EA role
- Professionals who are already working in an EA discipline and want to achieve an internationally recognised qualification. Learning Objectives

Following successful completion of the education and assessment components related to this certification, practical TOGAF delegates can expect to gain an understanding and competencies in the following areas:

Concepts of and the need for Enterprise Architectures
Principles of EA and available frameworks
Architecture principles and goals
Architecture components and framework coverage
Architectures in the organization
Business Architecture and requirements

Architecture activities, deliverables and viewpoints
Business Process, Information, Applications and Technology Architectures

Please note that this training course provides additional material over and above TOGAF in order to orient delegates to EA and modern architectures, such as SOA (Service-Oriented Architectures).

Learning outcomes
Following completion of this course material, delegates will gain a comprehensive understanding of TOGAF structure, concepts and principles in order to be able to:

Understand the benefits, role and scope of EA
Market the EA discipline within an organisation
Discuss the typical path to implementation of an EA capability
Identify the various stages of an EA method and lifecycle and the purpose and outputs of each of these
Plan an EA project at a high level
Discuss who the stakeholders are in the EA process and what viewpoints are relevant to each
Prepare key deliverables for selected phases in the ADM life cycle (Note: it is beyond the scope of the course to teach detailed modelling techniques in all areas)
Discuss the various reference models in TOGAF and their applicability
Show an understanding of the Enterprise Continuum and the role of a repository
Use the concepts of building blocks to facilitate interoperability and reuse

Prerequisite Entry Criteria
There are no formal entry requirements and successful delegates come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. We do recommend that delegates should have at least five years working experience or a university level qualification with some exposure to IT and business. Ideally delegates should already have, or be motivated to move into, a role which requires enterprise level architectural thinking and responsibility.
