MoP Foundation
WHAT is Management of Portfolios (MoP):
MoP focuses on developing a clear understanding of the full costs, benefits and risk of change projects. Investing in the right change initiatives, whether projects or programmes, and implementing them correctly, is now essential to all organisations, as they seek to deliver change within resources.
MoP is all about prioritising projects and programmes, and maximising the greatest return on the investment. Initiatives are reviewed to ensure they are aligned to strategic objectives and the level of risk within the portfolio is satisfactory. At the heart of the portfolio management model is organisational energy and effort; developing this is key to success in delivering strategic change.
MoP is structured around five principles within which two cycles operate and twelve management pratices are used. All portfolio management principles, cycles and practices are undertaken together, with the objective of ensuring more of the right programmes and projects are being undertaken, with the removal of redundant, duplicate or poorly performing ones. Together with more efficient delivery, this results in greater benefits realisation and return on investment.
