Managing Stress
Overview
Excessive stress at work poses a serious risk to any business. It is a challenge that must be met by identifying root causes and implementing sensible working procedures. The consequence of excessive and long-term stress is a reduction in staff performance and ultimately, profitability. Controlling and coping with stress is therefore an important management duty which cannot be ignored.
Key Outcomes
Delegates will consider their own work situations with the aim of identifying the causes of work-related stress. They will then identify practical strategies for dealing with stress and also consider if changes to their procedures, processes and policies are needed. In short, they will aim to be calm & positive when the pressure is on!

- The definition of work-related stress, (and the results of excessive stress)
- The difference between pressure and stress - how can one lead to the other?
- The legal position – the moral duty of employers and the impact and implications of related legislation, (including the Health and Safety viewpoint)
- Recognising the symptoms of excessive work-related stress
- Maintaining a healthy work-life balance, (including relaxation techniques)
- Three approaches for dealing with stress at work – problem centred approach, well-being approach, employee centred approach
- Policies and procedures – do they need revising?
- Case studies and their implications for your organisation
- Related management responsibilities - absence management, mental health at work, occupational health

There will be a maximum group size of 8 attendees allowing for individual attention from the tutor and the opportunity to practise your skills during the day.
