IWA Initial

This course allows the candidate to work on or near the line on their own and give them the competence to set up safe systems of work for themselves.

The course is three days in duration and comprises of classroom based instruction, a site visit onto the operational railway followed by written and practical assessments.

Pre-requisites for attendance

Upon successful completion of the course, the candidate will receive a sentinel track safety card for four months, during which time they must be mentored, and on or before the four month limit they must complete an on-site assessment carried out by a workplace assessor.

During the two years preceding the workplace assessment, they will need to maintain a logbook, which will be issued by the training provider, all entries will be endorsed by their manager and it must be reviewed at least twice within the two year period. After two years they will need to sit a two day recertification course ( not applicable to NWR staff).

Failure to maintain the logbook will lead to loss of competence and a further three day course would be required.

This course can be delivered at our training centre or at the clients premises (subject to specific criteria being met in relation to the training venue, requirements as specified by Achilles).
