Objective
This course ensures that safety requirements are appreciated by people employed as line managers and enables them to review their
own departmental systems for safety, introducing new controls or implementing changes as appropriate to make the department work
more safely.
Contents
On successful completion of the course delegates should be able to:
Explain "working safely"
Explain the component parts of a recognised safety management system such as HSG65 or BS 8800 and appreciate the role of risk
assessment within the system
Compare safety management systems with their management systems and describe how to integrate systems successfully if
appropriate
Identify the data and techniques required to produce an adequate record of an incident and demonstrate the procedure for an
accident investigation, recognising the human factors involved
Final day examination
Practical exercise for each delegate to take away and implement in their workplace in their own time
Who should attend
This qualification is to provide Managers with an understanding of Health & Safety practices. It is also appropriate as a progression for
those who have completed Working Safely.
Course benefits
The certificates for this course will remain valid for a period of three years. A re-certification course is available to update and increase
knowledge of current best practice. The re-certification course will allow previous course delegates to update their skills without
resitting the four day course.

epidemiological analysis for reactive monitoring techniquesDefine hazards and risks and describe the legal requirements for risk

Demonstrate a practical understanding of a quantitative risk technique and the data required for records
Identify workplace precaution hierarchies and the criteria for types of workplace precautions and controls
Prepare and use active monitoring checklists and implement schedules for active monitoring, recording results and analysing records
Explain the purposes and techniques of a health and safety audit
Outline the main provisions of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work
Regulations 1992
Describe procedures and techniques used in management reviews
Outline relevant health and safety legislation, codes of practice, guidance notes and information sources such as the Health and
Safety Executive;
Distinguish specific hazards both generally and from an organisational perspective
Certificates
In order for and IOSH Managing Safely Certificate to be issued, the delegate should successfully complete the institution's approved
assessment procedure which is provided at the end of the four day session.
Trainers background
The trainer for this course has extensive experience in design and delivery of health & safety training programmes. They are qualified
by NEBOSH (National Examination Board for Occupational Safety & Health) and Associate member of IOSH (Institute of
Occupational Safety & Health) and is a member of the Chartered Management Institute and the International Institute of Risk and
Safety Management and the Association for Project Safety. The trainer is fully qualified and accredited to deliver IOSH Health &
Safety training courses and has been instrumental in their successful delivery for a number of years.
