Course Description
The Introduction to BS 8901:2009 course is designed to provide delegates with a working knowledge of and a degree of comfort with the concept of sustainability, the updated version of BS 8901 and their relation to event management. Attendees gain a working understanding of key sustainability and environmental management concepts, such as issue identification and evaluation, legal requirements, designing stakeholder engagement programmes and setting objectives and targets. The course structure incorporates interactive group work, discussions and presentations. An expert instructor directly involved in the current development of the international version of the standard (ISO 20121) provides a detailed overview of the emerging BS 8900 series relating to all aspects of sustainable development, events and the certification/registration process.

Who should attend?
-Individuals involved in the support or implementation of BS 8901
-Senior executives in event, media and communications management considering the adoption of either ISO 14001 or BS 8901 directly or working with clients who are doing so.
-Those with limited or no experience with BS 8901 or sustainability management system for events
-Corporate Sustainability or CSR Managers, procurement professionals and those with responsibility for planning and delivering corporate events
-Organisations planning to tender for 2012 Olympic contracts.

This course will enable you to:
-Explain sustainability and environmental management definitions, concepts and guidelines
-Identify the requirements of the BS 8901:2009 standard
-Describe the relationship between BS 8901:2009 (sustainability for events) and ISO 14001:2004 (environmental management)
-Interpret the clauses of BS 8901:2009 for their own circumstances
-Understand where the standard fits into the 2012 Olympic strategy
-Evaluate the importance and benefits of a management system to improve the sustainability of events
-Define the dynamics of the BS 8901:2009 certification/registration process
